Weather

Weather refers to the state of the atmosphere regarding heat or cold, wetness or dryness, calm or storm, clearness or cloudiness. There are three major factors in the weather, temperature, rain, and wind.

The weather changes when air masses move around. An air mass is a large body of air, either warm or cold. In most cases, air masses move from areas with high air pressure to those with low air pressures.

When air masses collide, they create what is called a weather front. There are two types of weather fronts:

  1. Cold fronts form when cold air masses move into warm air masses. The most common results of cold fronts are lowered temperatures, heavy rain, and/ thunderstorms.
  2. Warm fronts form when a warm air mass moves into a cold air mass. The most common results of these types of fronts are warmer temperatures and rain showers.
