The Star
The Star is a poem written by the American author Sara Teasdale. This poem is about a star shining its light into a puddle because the sea is not calm enough for the star's reflection to shine back at it.
The star in this poem "loves" a small puddle, and she gives it her light. To her surprise a pig comes out of the nearby forest and sloshes in the puddle thus making it no longer reflect any light. The star is shocked by this development and hides herself behind a cloud.
Using personification the poet describes the star as a female creature who talks to and loves a puddle. The puddle is described as gurgling with glee when a pig sloshed about in it. "The water gurgled with tender glee".
