The Mayan Creation Myth
The Maya used to believe that two deities named the Quetzal Serpent and Shaper created the earth.
Supposedly the Quetzal Serpent and Shaper created the earth and all the life on it. They wanted to created living beings that would worship them. When they created animals, they told them to worship the “gods”. When the animals tried, they created such a racket that the deities told them to stop.
The “gods” first tried to make humans out of clay, but they melted, then they tried to create them out of wood, but they had no spirit, then finally the Quetzal Serpent and Shaper made humans out of maize and this time it worked.
