The History of the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin
After Benjamin Franklin died, his biography (left uncompleted) went to his grandson, who copied it and made many revisions in the text, then sold the original to his father's old friend, Mosieour le Veillard, who lived in France.
Unluckily, the grandson's revisions were not accurate, and when he printed the new version and sold the copies, everyone who bought one got an inaccurate version.
The original was much more accurate, being written by Franklin himself. Veillard sold it to a U.S. Embassy member in France, and then it got bought by John Bigelow, who printed it again as the original version.
Mr. Bigelow then sold it to the Library Of Congress, where it resides to this day.
