Proverbs 1:7
The book of Proverbs is right after Psalms, and is mostly written by Solomon, David's son, who was the wisest person in the world, so you might think that he has some good advice on how to become wise like him.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
In fact, Solomon does have advice. His advice is to fear the Lord because God created the entire universe and has the power to send us to Heaven or Hell.
Solomon feared the Lord, asking for wisdom instead of power or riches. He asked for the wisdom to govern his people, and God gave him power and riches on top.
On the other hand, a fool can be considered a person who doesn't fear the Lord, and unfortunately, Solomon ignored God's commands, marrying 700 wives and 300 concubines, even though God's law forbid him from doing so.
To become wise, we should ask God for wisdom and fear Him (respect Him). We also shouldn't ignore his commands; otherwise, we are foolish.
