Plant Reproductive Success

Plant Reproductive Success

The more surviving offspring that a plant has, the more reproductive success it has.

Certain things that animals do affect the reproductive success of plants. One of these is called pollination. This is when an animal takes some pollen from one plant to another, giving pollen from male parts of plants to female parts. A type of animal that pollinates is the honey bee, it moves pollen around the flowers it lands on while getting nectar.

Another way that a plant's reproductive success is increased is by the spreading of their seeds. When an animal or human eats a fruit, the seed enters the digestive system. After the seeds are ejected, they get planted and grow. Birds, when they eat fruit, do not usually eat the seed, this means that when they are done eating, they will drop it on the ground, thus increasing its chances of planting.

Another way the plant's seed is spread is by the wind blowing them away. One example of this is the dandelion, which has its seeds spread by the wind.
