Historical texts are not the only places where you can find info on Romans! In the Bible, which has legitimate historical records of events that happened in the past, there are many records of Romans.

One of the most renowned writers in the Bible that was a Roman citizen, was a man named Paul. Before he was a Christian, Paul persecuted Christians, and killed many of them. On the way to a town called Damascus, Paul was blinded by a bright light. Jesus appeared to him in a light, and told him that he should not persecute Christians because it was like he was persecuting Him.

In the Bible, there was a prophecy that said that Jesus, the messiah, would be born in Bethlehem, and that he would be a descendant of David. Many years after this prophecy was written, Joseph, one of David's descendants, had to go back to his ancestor's hometown in Bethlehem for a census, which was initiated by the Roman ruler, Cesar Augustus.

The pharisees were afraid of Jesus gaining a following because they feared that the Romans would destroy their temple, and that they would kill them. They feared this because it was prophesied that the messiah would come and rule Israel.

Pontius Pilate, who was the fifth governor of the Roman province of Judea around 30 A.D, judged Jesus, and although he did not find Him guilty of anything, he sentenced Jesus to death, being pressured to do so by the Jewish religious leaders.
