Earthquakes
Earthquakes are the breaking and cracking of rocks inside the continental plates. They happen when stress builds up in the nearby area. Very few or no earthquakes occur when the plates move slowly but when they move quickly there is a higher possibility of earthquakes.
When earthquakes occur they not only break buildings, they scar the land. The main reason that buildings cannot withstand earthquakes is that they are not built to withstand them. Sometimes when faults are formed they appear on roads so the builders today make the roads go around the fault lines.
When an earthquake happens it sends out ripples through the earth called Seismic Waves. These waves make everything nearby shake.
Skyscrapers are built to withstand earthquakes. The skyscrapers are built to withstand high winds, that move them side to side. The same movement is caused by earthquakes thus making skyscrapers wind and earthquake-proof.
